Bio

Not Every World's the First World

Benito was born on the island of Santa Pusca. Like many islands in the Caribbean, it maintains a delicate balance between the picturesque tourist resorts and the utterly impoverished world of the natives. And like many Third World countries, it is controlled by a corrupt government, run from behind the scenes by one of the most powerful drug cartels in the world.

Benito learned none of this until he was already a young man. He was born in - and into - prison, forced to serve his unknown father's life sentence behind the walls of the infamous Peña Duro. Though imprisoned, his natural abilities allowed him to develop extraordinary skills within the prison's walls. He read as many books as he could get his hands on, built up his body in the prison's gym, and learned to fight in the merciless school of prison life. Despite his circumstances, he found teachers of various sorts during his incarceration, ranging from hardened convicts to an elderly Jesuit priest, under whose tutelage he received a classical education.

Eventually, by adulthood, his strength and intelligence led to him asserting himself as the "King of Peña Duro". The prison controllers, agents of the drug cartel, took note and he was enrolled in an experimental drug testing program: the Venom Project.

Venom was highly addictive and highly deadly; all of the previous test subjects before Benito had died painful deaths. But Benito survived, becoming stronger, smarter, and dependent on the drug.

But Benito on Venom was not easy to keep behind bars. Along with a group of friends, he stole the remaining supply of Venom, literally broke through the prison walls, and fled to the other side of the island.

Once there, living incognito, he began to search for a new place to go, far from the hell that was Santa Pusca. He remembered archived newspapers he had read of a place called Gotham City, in the United States, the home of the doctor that had saved his mother's life, thereby saving Benito's. Maybe, he hoped, Dr. Wayne could help him fight his addiction to Venom.

Benito hopped the first boat he could find; a cruise ship taking wealth Gothamites between their city and his island, and worked illegally as a janitor until they docked in Gotham Harbor.

But Gotham was not what he'd expected.

Maybe a New Life is Possible

Benito lives in Gotham now, in a small apartment with three other illegal immigrants. He watches the world around him, waiting, trying to figure out a way to get the attention of Bruce Wayne in the hopes that he can be some help.

But Benito has noticed that since Mr. Wayne returned from his self-imposed exile, around the same time that he arrived from Santa Pusca, odd things have been happening. First Dr. Crane, then Mr. Dent and that Joker character, all popping up to fight against this vigilante called the Batman.

Very strange indeed. And just last week, Benito received a note with no return address, only a name: Ra's al Ghul.

Notes and Disclaimers

This is the character of Bane, Nolanized to fit into the world of Batman Beginsand The Dark Knight. His history is a combination of comic canon and my own dose of realism to achieve that end.

Bane is a drug addict, and is addicted to a very powerful drug. He requires a hit at least once every twelve hours. He doesn't have tubes running into his head, though, because that'd be pretty unseemly.

I am not a native Spanish speaker, so I apologize if I make any mistakes with idioms.
